José Antonio García López adapted the Flesch Readability Formula to determine the minimum age needed to understand Spanish text.
The formula is:
Age = 0.2495(P) + 6.4763(S) - 7.1395
- Age: Age needed to understand the text.
- P: average number of words per phrase.
- S: average number of syllables per word.
Here's how it works:
- It takes the average number of words in a sentence and the average number of syllables in a word.
- Then, it uses these numbers in a simple math equation to output the minimum age.
This formula is useful to ensure that Spanish readers can read and understand important documents.
